Japanese concepts have always been an integral part of mental health. The finesse, mindset and self discipline with which the Japanese spend their life is a factor of global motivation . Here are a few Japanese concepts which might alter our way of looking at life to attain desirable outcome.
• Wabi Sabi – which means that things that are imperfect are often beautiful. Beauty lies in them naturally. Even a crack in an object can result in denoting something beautiful.
• Ichie go ichie – it is about time and moment. ‘One meeting at a time.’ Valuing it because it will not re occur
• Shinrin yoku- is forest bathing. It is, basking in the glory of nature – amidst birds, woods, trees and fresh air. The walk in itself in rejuvenating
• Ikigai – the most commonly used Japanese terms which carries a deep meaning. We all come to this earth with a particular purpose and our aim should be to understand and attain that.
• Shikata Ga Nai – this is akin to the Latin phrase and concept- amor fati. It tells us nothing can be changed, altered and whatever has to happen will end up happening. This concept helps the ones with depression, over stress and over thinking
• Mono no Aware – this concept is more of a reminder. It shows that nothing is permanent. So, valuing the transient beauty of life is essential. It is a bittersweet experience reaffirming the shortness of life and how every fleeting moment has a value added to it
• kaizen – this signifies the importance of work in one’s life and how to improve it in terms of quality and efficiency
• Gaman – Gaman is more of a coping mechanism concept wherein a person must exhibit patience, endurance and perseverance in the time of crisis
If life is to be studied and led in a beautiful way, the above mentioned concepts can be of great help. It instills positivity and also gives a route to an unnamed journey of an individual.
